Hyderabad, July 21 (Hydnow): Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today said that with the Telangana State is becoming a great agriculture based State, the importance and responsibility of Irrigation sector was increasing. He said that in tune with the changing situation, decentralization and revamping should be done in the Irrigation department. If need be, the Chief Minister said, that the government is ready to sanction 1000 posts newly. He said that the setup and network, which should provide water to 1.25 Crore acres in the State, should be perfect. The Chief Minister announced that henceforth the Irrigation department name is changed to Water Resources Department.

The CM held an extended review meeting on Monday at Pragathi Bhavan on the Water Resources Department. The officials who prepared a draft proposal on the revamping the Water resources department in accordance with the changing situation submitted it to the CM. The CM discussed the Draft proposals. The CM said the entire network should be in place and kept ready to lift 4 TMC of water from Godavari River and 3 TMC of water from the Krishna daily to supply water to 1.25 Crore acres of land in the State. The revamping and decentralization of the Water Resources Department should be in tune with this. The CM suggested some changes in the Draft proposals. He instructed the officials to have another Work Shop and discuss the changes proposed and make the revamping accordingly.

State Ministers Etela Rajender, Srinivas Goud, Principal secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar, CM Secretary Ms Smita Sabharwal, E-in-C’s Muralidhar Rao and Nagender Rao, Anil Kumar, Venkateswarlu, Hareram, CMOSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande, several CEs participated. He said that With lot of hardships, spending huge amount of money, the state government was constructing Major irrigation projects. Water should be supplied to 1.25 Crore acres of land through these projects. The Water Resources Department should be kept ready for this, he noted. Appoint one CE for each regional centre as in-charge. All the projects, reservoirs, canals, tanks, Lifts, Check dams and everything under the Irrigation should be placed under the jurisdiction of the CE concerned,” he said.

KCR asked the officials to Take out statistics on how many tanks were under the CE’s jurisdiction. Since we have put filling of the tanks from water supplied from the projects as the top priority, for the tanks under the CE’s jurisdiction should have plans. The work of filling the tanks should be done perfectly, he noted. (Hydnow)
