Hyderabad, Sept.20 (Hydnow): “Despite many challenges, Indian doctors are offering exemplary services thus ensuring the low Case Fatality Rate (CFR) among Covid-19 cases in our country,” said Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.

She said that the country’s CFR was much lower than many advanced countries and this was made possible by the adherence to protocols, commitment and dedication being shown by the doctors across the country in these pandemic times.

Participating as the chief guest at the Indian Medical Association’s Academy of Medical Specialties Convocation (IMA AMC Con-2020) through the virtual mode, the Governor exhorted the doctors to maintain high morale so as to serve the people and the nation though there were challenges and difficulties.

Expressing concern over the high mortality rate of around 15 per cent among the Covid-19 infected doctors and other medical professionals, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan called for special care to ensure their safety and improvement in infrastructure and other facilities in healthcare sector. Referring to the physical attacks on the doctors by the relatives of the patients and others, the Governor pointed out that Central government has enacted a stringent law to deal with such cases to protect the doctors.

“The peoples’ mindset towards the doctors’ fraternity should also change and they should adopt more positive approach towards those in medical profession by understanding their difficulties, hard work and service,” she added.
The Governor appreciated the initiatives of the Central Government in establishing 75 new medical colleges with an objective to produce at least 1 Lakh Allopathic medical graduates every year to meet the growing demand.
The special Covid-19 insurance to doctors and Ayushman Bharath schemes were proving of great use during the pandemic, she added.

IMA National President Rajan Sharma, Secretary General Asokan, IMA AMS chairman Ashraf, Telangana State Medical Council chairman Ravinder Reddy, Medical Education director K. Ramesh Reddy, IMA TS President Vijender Reddy, secretary SS Yadav and Convocation Organizing secretary Mohan Gupta also spoke. Convocation certificates were presented in a virtual mode. (Hydnow)
