Hyderabad, July 7 (Hydnow): Telangana Government has started demotion of Secretariat buildings in the city near Mint Compound and NTR Mary amid tight security.

The Secretariat comprises 10 big buildings and are being demolished to build new Secretariat in 6 lakh sq yards. The demolition works were started last night and traffic came to a halt on the routes leading to the Secretariat. As the high court recently gave nod paving way for the new Secretariat, the government has sped up the demolition works.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and DGP Mahender Reddy are monitoring the demolition works to be completed by Tuesday night itself according to information. The police not informed to the people of traffic curbs and sudden diversions caused a lot of inconvenience.

The officials have deployed police force near the site to avoid people coming through the way. About Rs 400 cr to Rs 500 cr are to be spent for the new Secretariat buildings by the government. The plan is to build sprawling complex to provide better facilities and the design was confirmed.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has reportedly finalised the suitable design for the new Secretariat buildings. With his directives the officials began the demolition works of the new Secretariat.

The Secretariat has the history of 132 years built during Nizam Rule. In combined Andhra Pradesh state as many as 16 Chief Ministers ruled the state form this premises. It is spread in 25 acres and new buildings are to come up in 6 lakh sq yards out of 10 lakh sq yards. (Hydnow)
