After selling nearly 2.75 lakh laddus including 1.80 lakh in Hyderabad, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has closed its laddu sale counters.

The TTD had commenced sale of the Sri Vari laddu prasadam in Telangana last Sunday. In view of lockdown, TTD offered the laddus at Rs.25 each.

“The response from devotees has been good and we sold nearly 2.75 lakh laddus in Telangana. Of these, 1.80 lakh have been sold in Hyderabad during the last four days,” TTD Assistant Executive Officer U. Ramesh said.

“The rest have been sold in other districts, including Warangal and Karimnagar by LIC officials, since we do not have the manpower and transportation facility. After purchasing the laddus, many devotees distributed them for free to their friends and dear ones,” he said.

The sale of laddus is likely to commence again in July at TTD kalyana mandapams in Telangana. However, they will be sold for the regular price of Rs.50 each.

Regarding darshan of Lord Venkateshwara Swamy at the Himayathnagar and Jubilee Hills temples in the city, Ramesh said they were awaiting orders from the Telangana government.

“Though the TTD is commencing trial runs from June 8 by permitting local residents and employees at Tirumala to facilitate darshan for devotees, we need clearance from Telangana Government to open the temples in Hyderabad for darshan,” he said.

All arrangements are being made at the temples to ensure physical distancing and use of sanitisers on the temple premises. Only devotees who use masks will be permitted for darshan, he added.
