Sangareddy: Be careful with the people waiting behind you at the ATM line since there are some e-payment applications that support withdrawal or payment of cash without the physical presence of the debit card or phone of the account holder. Sangareddy Police nabbed a youth Bashakarla Surya Teja (26), who withdrew Rs 1.55 lakh cash from three different accounts of Sangareddy district residents. Surya Teja, a native of Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad, had undergone training in cloud computing.
Producing the accused before media in Sangareddy on Friday, DSP, Sangareddy, P Sridhar Reddy said that the accused Teja, who has got tremendous memory power, had an ability to scan the card within seconds. He keeps the card number, name of the account holder and CVV in memory without writing down on any paper.
Since Samsung Pay App allows paying the amount from using PoS machine without the physical presence of the card, the DSP has said that Teja used it an opportunity to withdraw cash from PoS machines by giving 2 per cent to PoS machine holders.
The DSP has called upon the citizens not to show even your ATM cards to any person. He has asked them to be careful with shoulder browsing while withdrawing the cash in ATM since the persons standing behind you may note down the details of your ATM card.
The Police have recovered Rs 1.4 lakh from the accused. A case in Cyber Crime Police Station under Hyderabad Commissionerate was also registered against him as he booked a new year Party ticket in Goa using an ATM card on December 30, 2019.
He paid Rs 54,000 using an HDFC ATM Card. The accused has been remanded. Reddy has appreciated the Sangareddy Police team for cracking the case. The DSP has said that they will soon present rewards to them.
