Hyderabad, April 12: US Iran talks fail after marathon negotiations in Pakistan, raising concerns over the fragile ceasefire. Officials said both sides could not reach a final agreement after 21 hours.

US Vice President JD Vance led the American delegation in Islamabad. He said Iran’s refusal to forgo its nuclear programme remained a key issue.

However, he noted that both sides held several substantive discussions. He added that the US presented its final offer, but Iran did not accept it.

US Iran talks fail after marathon negotiations due to differences over nuclear commitments. Therefore, the US insisted on clear assurances against nuclear weapons development.

Vance said President Donald Trump aims to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He stressed the need for firm commitments from Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iran said the outcome depends on goodwill and fair demands. It also outlined a plan seeking sanctions relief and control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The talks marked the first direct high level engagement since the Iranian Revolution. They began after a short ceasefire announced earlier.

Pakistan facilitated the negotiations following an appeal by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, the failure raised doubts over the ceasefire and regional stability.
