Hyderabad: After the heat wave conditions that kept the State on its toes for almost a week, there is a high possibility of a major swing in weather conditions over the weekend, with the India Meteorological Department predicting thunderstorms, accompanied with lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds as well in several districts in the next two days.

According to the weather warning from the IMD on Friday, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds reaching up to around 30 to 40 kmph were very likely to occur on Saturday at isolated places in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Hyderabad, Mahbubnagar, Jogulamba Gadwal and Suryapet.

On Sunday too, the weather conditions were likely to be the same with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorm and gusty winds.

In the last 24 hours, heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated pockets in Adilabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Peddapalli, Medak and Nizamabad, while the highest maximum temperature of 45.3 degree Celsius was recorded at Adilabad. In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature in the 24 hours up to 8.30 am on Friday was 42.9 degree Celsius, a departure of 3.4 degrees from normal.

As for the monsoon, the IMD bulletin on Friday said the Southwest Monsoon had further advanced into some parts of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea and some more parts of the Maldives ­Comorin area.

“Conditions were becoming favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of south Arabian Sea, Maldives ­Comorin area, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours,” it said, adding that the ‘conditions are likely to become favourable for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around June 1.
