Pulwama: In the Awantipora region of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a CRPF jawan allegedly took his own life using his service rifle while on guard duty at a check post.
The tragic incident occurred during the night between Friday and Saturday. The jawan, identified as CT/GD sepoy Ajay Kumar from the 112 Bn, was stationed for security duty in the Morcha area of Awantipora.
Around 1:55 am on the night of August 11 and 12, gunshots were heard near the SAIL Chersoo location. Upon investigation, the lifeless body of the jawan, Ajay Kumar, was discovered in a pool of blood.
Kashmir Police initiated a probe into the incident to ascertain the cause of the jawan’s death. Preliminary findings suggest that the CRPF personnel took his own life. However, official confirmation is pending.
The Union Home Minister has alerted the states of the country in the wake of the Indo-Pak War. The Telangana government and police, which were immediately alerted, took preemptive measures. Security has been tightened in Hyderabad.
Thirty-two airports across northern and western parts of the country, including Srinagar and Amritsar, have been closed for civilian flight operations till May 15, according to the civil aviation regulator.
