Death Sentence For Eight Indians Cancelled in Qatar

Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 12 (Hydnow): Eight Indians sentenced to death in Qatar have been released by the Qatar government.  Of the eight ex-navy officers, seven have already returned to India, the External Affairs Ministry said, The Indian navy was happy with this.

Eight ex-marines from India worked in Doha-based Al Dohra Global Technologies.  The government there registered a case and arrested eight officials of Saurabh Vashishth, Navtej Gill, Commanders Birendra Kumar Verma, Pumendu Tiwari, Sugunakar Pakala, Sanjeev Gupta, Amit Nagpal, and Sailor Rajesh for stealing their information.

The former marines were sentenced to death by a lower court in qatar in October last year after being tried several times in jail for more than a year.

The Government of India responded to this and appealed in the Court that they were not given any information on the death penalty.

The Indian government made serious diplomatic efforts to abolish the death penalty.

The court, after conducting a full hearing, commuted the death sentence to imprisonment on December 28.  60 days have passed to appeal.

The government once again appealed and worked hard for their release, Seven ex-marines landed in India this morning. (Hydnow)
