Forests Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy said executing agencies and authorities of irrigation department to expedite works pertaining to canal of package number 27 and 28 of Kaleshwaram project and Sadarmat barrage across Godavari river. He said that one lakh acres of agriculture would be irrigated once the works were complete.

He along with Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister’s Office Sridhar Rao Deshpandey reviewed progress of the works here on Saturday.

Indrakaran told the authorities to prepare estimations for taking up remaining works of the two packages and barrage. He informed that 50,000 acres of fields of Nirmal would be covered through package number 27 of the project and similar quantum of acreage was going to be irrigated by the package number 28. He ordered the executing agencies and authorities concerned to speed up the execution.

Sridhar Rao assured that he would strive hard for granting the funds to pay pending bills relating to farmers who were going to be displaced due to construction of the canals and the barrage. He said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandraskehar Rao was laying a special focus on Kaleshwaram project and irrigating one crore acres of agriculture field was his dream.

Irrigation department’s Engineer-in-Chef Shankar Goud informed that works worth Rs 256.58 crore were pending and Rs 97.9 crore needed for paying compensation to the displaced farmers. He stated that Rs 195.33 crore was spent executing works of Sadarmat barrage. He added that funds Rs 213.78 crore still needed for taking up the various remaining works.

Earlier, Indrakaran, Sridhara Rao, Collector Md Musharraf and Superintendent of Police C Shashidhar Raju inspected the works of the canals of Kaleshwaram project at Gundampalli village in Dilawarpur mandal. They also inspected works of a tunnel at Madgaon village.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson K Vijayalaxmi, Mudhole MLA G Vittal Reddy and his counterpart of Khanapur A Rekha Naik, Md Musharraf Ali, Additional Collector A Bhaskar Rao, Farmer Agriculture Coordination Committee Coordinator N Venkatrami Reddy, District Revenue Officer Somesh, Irrigation department’s Superintending Engineer Ramarao, engineers and contractors were present.
