Hyderabad, Nov 15 (Hydnow): The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for the Telangana Assembly elections ended today. A large number of candidates seem to have withdrawn their nominations. Amid appeasement and negotiations, the rebels of the main parties as well as the independent candidates withdrew their nominations.
In Gajwel, where Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is contesting, a record number of nominations have been filed, and half of the candidates have withdrawn their nominations. It seems that the nominations of 58 people have been withdrawn from yesterday till now.
On the other hand, the talks held by the congress leadership with the rebels have been fruitful. Rebels have withdrawn their nominations in many seats. Patel Ramesh Reddy in Suryapet, Gangaram in Jukkal, Balaraju in Banswada, Nehrunaik in Dornakal, Raghava Reddy in Warangal East and Dadem Ram Reddy in Ibrahimpatnam withdrew their nominations.
On the other hand, the BJP State President Kishan Reddy announced that the BJP rebels have also withdrawn a large number of nominations.
After the scrutiny of nominations, nominations filed by 2,898 candidates were approved by EC. Officials announced that 606 nominations were rejected as per the rules. Now that the deadline for withdrawal has expired, the official statistics on the number of people who will go to the polls are to be received from the Election Commission. (Hydnow)
