High Court Expresses Anger Over KCR Govt

Hyderabad, July 29 (Hydnow): Telangana Government today urged Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) to see that AP Government do not use water from Pothireddipadu lift project.

In a letter to the board, ENC Muralidhar has said that the government of Telangana has no objection to power generation at Srisailam Hydel project by Andhra Pradesh state. The water distribution has to be done 50: 50 percent to each state, he urged.

Since the Bachawst Tribunal is conducting an inquiry into water allocations, usage by the two states the AP cannot take away water from Pothireddipadu lift project.

Muralidhar urged the board to allow maximum power generation at Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala power project sites. As the lift irrigation systems and boarwells need power and generation is to be allowed, he urged.

The state has no problem if the AP starts power generation at Srisailam Hydel project he said. He appealed the board to take measures that AP desist from taking water from Pothireddipadu lift project.

There is a need for maintenance of minimum water level at Srisailam hydel project and water cannot be allowed beyond Krishna basin, he said. It is time to use water within the Krishna basin and not allow beyond he added.

Krishna board recently instructed Telangana to stop power generation at these sites followed by objections from AP government.

AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, JalShakti minister to stop power generation by Telangana and state replied to the same. (Hydnow)
