Hyderabad, April 12: Pakistan tops Global Terrorism Index 2026 despite a global decline in terror incidents and deaths. The latest report shows a sharp rise in violence within the country.
According to the findings, 1139 people died in terror related incidents last year. Therefore, Pakistan recorded one of the highest fatality counts globally.
Researcher Fathima El Hashmi analysed the situation in American Thinker. She said violence has become frequent, indicating a worsening security environment.
Pakistan tops Global Terrorism Index 2026 with rising incidents over six consecutive years. Moreover, the report noted that deaths reached the highest level in a decade.
Most attacks occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. These regions accounted for 74 percent of attacks and 67 percent of deaths in 2025.
The analysis highlighted weak governance and lack of development in these areas. As a result, internal conflicts intensified in these regions.
Fathima said Pakistan relies heavily on military responses. However, she stressed that broader reforms remain limited.
She added that lasting peace needs political clarity and better governance. Additionally, she called for improved relations with neighbouring countries.
