Sudden spells of rain, accompanied with strong winds on Friday brought respite to the city that was on the edge with day temperatures touching nearly 41 degree Celsius.

Till 2 pm on Friday, Keesara recorded a moderate rainfall of 27.8 mm, followed by Bandlaguda (7.8 mm), Secunderabad (6.5 mm), Qutbullahpur (5 mm), Khairatabad (3 mm) and Shapur Nagar (1.8), according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society.

The skies were cloudy since noon, and opened up suddenly, taking many by surprise. Several policemen on lockdown enforcement duty were seen rushing for cover, while many two-wheeler drivers were seen taking cover under flyovers and Metro stations.

The Met department had already issued a weather warning stating that thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds were very likely to occur at isolated places over Telangana on Friday and that the same conditions were likely to prevail on Saturday as well.

Apart from Hyderabad, districts such as Medak, Yadadri, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool and Siddipet too received rainfall on Friday.
