Rs. 1 Crore Fine To Patanjali: SC Warning

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 22 (Hydnow): The supreme court cautioned yoga guru Ramdev-led Patanjali ayurveda over misleading claims in its ads.  If falsely claimed to cure a particular disease, on each product Rs. one crore fine will be imposed.

On August 23, this year, the Supreme court had issued a notice on a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) alleging that Ramdev’s campaign against the vaccination drive of Patanjali ayurved, a firm founded by yoga guru Ramdev, along with Patanjali, Union Health Ministry and AYUSH Ministry have also issued notices.

The supreme court has recently asked Patanjali ayurveda to immediately stop such false and misleading advertisements.  A bench comprising Justices ahsanuddin amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra, while hearing a petition by the Indian Medical Association observed that such violations very seriously.  During the brief hearing, the bench asked Patanjali ayurveda not to publish misleading claims and statements against modern medical practices. Counsel for the Center has been asked to find a solution to the misleading medical issue of advertisements making claims about drugs that provide complete cure for certain diseases.

The Supreme court has adjourned the further hearing of this petition filed by IMA to February 5.  While issuing notices on this petition, the Supreme court came down heavily on Ramdev for criticizing allopathy and allopathy practitioners.  He suggested that treatment by doctors should prevent abuse of other systems.
