Waste From Telangana’s Containment Zones Being Treated Separately

Considering the possible threat posed by waste generated from containment zones, all the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been instructed to treat this garbage on par with bio-medical waste. Hence, the waste generated from about 292 containment zones across the State is being collected, transported and disposed separately.

About 7,400 tonnes of garbage is generated in Telangana State everyday, including 4,500 tonnes in GHMC area alone. Soon after the lockdown was announced, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) advised the State governments to treat waste from houses with quarantined people as bio-medical waste. Accordingly, State government issued separate guidelines to all the ULBs for implementation of the measures in containment zones as well.
