As many as 14 bulls and three oxen were electrocuted and two sustained injuries when they accidentally came in contact with snapped power lines passing through an agriculture field on the outskirts of Elkeshwaram village in Bhimaram mandal.

Bheemaram Assistant Engineer of Northern Power Distribution Company Limited K Srinivas told ‘Telangana Today’ that the cattle belonging to nine farmers died when they came into contact with the live wire of a three-phased power line meant for agriculture on which another line collapsed due to strong gales.

“Supply of power to the three-phase line was stopped when it snapped due to gales. But it came live when another line meant for domestic use fell on it following winds. The bulls and oxen grazing at a field came in contact with the wire and died on the spot,” Srinivas said. Power distribution officials visited the spot and enquired about it.

The authorities said a probe into this incident had been initiated. Compensation would be given to the farmers soon, based on a report that would be submitted soon. However, farmers requested officials of NPDCL to repair power lines that snapped in the recent strong winds and take preventive measures to avoid recurrence of similar accidents. They said the snapped power lines posed a threat to the lives of humans and cattle.
