Delhi/Hyderabad, Jan 13 (Hydnow): Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge has been selected as the Chairperson of the Opposition “INDI” Alliance.
The main leaders of the parties belonging to the INDI Alliance met on Saturday in virtual mode. On this occasion, they discussed the issues of further strengthening the alliance, adjustment of seats between the participating parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and appointment of a convener for the alliance. The meeting also focused on resolving the differences of opinion between the participating parties.
All the opposition leaders held intense discussions regarding the selection of the leader of the alliance and decided to appoint Kharge as the Chairperson. However, the issue of seat adjustment between the alliance parties is still not clear regarding the next general election. Although the leaders have held discussions on the distribution of seats, no final decision has been taken yet.
It seems that the leaders have chosen Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as the convener of the alliance. But it is reported that Nitish has made it clear that he will be the convener only if all the parties agree. In fact, while Nitish is contesting for the 10th term of the president of the alliance, it is reported that he requested in today’s meeting that it would be better if someone from the Congress party took up that responsibility.
Trinamool Congress president, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav did not participate in the meeting as they were busy with other activities. Meanwhile, it is known that the opposition parties, including the Congress, have united to form the INDI Alliance in the Lok Sabha elections to oust the BJP government led by Prime Minister Modi.
