Hyderabad, Aug.8 (Hydnow): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao launched the fortnight-long ” Swatantra Bharatha Vajrotsavalu” (Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Independence) at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) here on Monday.

Hoisting the National flag and paying floral tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, KCR launched the celebrations.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the real development of the country was possible only if the prevailing poverty was eradicated.

Even though the country had witnessed remarkable progress in various sectors during the last 75 years, there is still a need to achieve more in certain areas.

The prevalence of poverty is continued in the country and people from Dalits and some other marginalized sections still feel that there are being met with injustice at various stages in society.

The people’s struggle and their resentment will be continued as long as poverty has existed in the country, the Chief Minister said.

” We can call it the development only when the people from all stakeholders of the country are happy,” KCR opined.

The Chief Minister said there is a need to enlighten the present generation about the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters to free the country from British rule.

“India didn’t get independence easily. It had achieved freedom after the struggle of about 150 years and the scarification of thousands of people. The present generation doesn’t know about the pain of freedom struggle and the sacrifices of freedom fighters. We have a responsibility to explain about the Independent movement to the present generation and inculcation of patriotism among them,” the Chief Minister said.

Stating that some of them are behaving in a way that insults Gandhi, KCR said Mahatma always remains as Mahatma. He was not only the son of India but also of the world. (Hydnow)
