India is starting to feel the thrill and excitement of the Festival of Lights as Diwali is just around the corner. For students, Diwali is yet another occasion to celebrate a well-deserved getaway from the tight schedules of school and college. Diwali holidays, however, can differ significantly in duration and date between the northern and southern regions, typically due to local celebrations, customs, and traditions.

Beginning this week, schools across several states will be closed for Diwali and subsequent holidays such as Chhath. Several state governments have set aside dates for holidays in celebration of Diwali, which falls on November 12. It is recommended that parents and students check with the administration of their schools and colleges to clarify the exact number of holidays that have been announced by their institutions.

Several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar, have declared three to four days off in celebration of the festival of lights.
