The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with the Health department has appointed nodal officers for monitoring and coordinating the inauguration of 45 Basthi Dawakhanas.

Presently, the GHMC, along with the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare department, has established and operating 123 Basthi Dawakhanas in the city. Another 45 of these health and wellness centres have already been set up.

Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao had recently instructed the officials to immediately inaugurate the new facilities which are ready to be functional. Following this, the GHMC has appointed the nodal officers for monitoring and co-coordinating the inauguration of the 45 Dawakhanas. These officers are entrusted with the task of ensuring that prescribed activities are completed and that the Basthi Dawakhas are fully functional right from the day of inauguration.

The officials are expected to ensure reporting of the medical officer, staff nurse and supporting staff of the Dawakhanas, availability of electricity connection, water facility, sanitation in and around Basthi Dawakhana, logistics needed to inaugurate and to make the Basthi Dawakhana functional apart from availability of medicines and medical equipment.

The GHMC has also instructed zonal commissioners to monitor the overall arrangements made for the inaugural of the Basthi Dawakhanas in their respective zones.

Inauguration to be low key affair, says Mayor

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao and Health Minister Eatala Rajender will inaugurate 45 Basthi Dawakhanas in the city on Friday, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Wednesday said.

Ministers Md Mahmood Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Sabitha Indra Reddy, Ch Malla Reddy and other prominent leaders will also participate in the inaugural function.

Rammohan said that given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, the inauguration of the Basthi Dawakhanas will be a low key affair. The healthcare facilities will be thrown open in the presence of minimal staff and patients by KTR.

The Mayor also pointed out that Basthi Dawakhanas would go a long way in reducing the patient load at tertiary teaching hospitals in the city including Gandhi Hospital, Osmania General Hospital, Fever Hospital, Chest Hospital and Niloufer Hospital. Basic medical needs will be provided at Basthi Dawakhanas while specialty care will be provided at the tertiary care facilities, he added.
