Hyderabad, Aug.4 (Hydnow): The Telangana High Court today heard a case filed by a lecturer challenging the decision of the state government to sanction crores of rupees to its top officials to fight contempt of court cases.

In his petition, the petitioner told the HC that the state government had sanctioned a whopping ₹58 crore for the purpose of fighting the contempt of court cases.

Responding to a petition, a division bench comprising the Chief Justice of the state Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy asked the state government as to why ₹58 crore were sanctioned for fighting the contempt cases. It asked the state government to submit a report on how public money is spent and the rules related to the treasury department of the state on the public expenditure.

The HC issued notices to the secretaries of revenue, finance departments, CCLA and the state director of the treasuries department and asked them to submit their counters in the case. It has also notices to the chief secretary of the state in his personal capacity. The HC later adjourned the hearing of the case till October 27. (Hydnow)
