Hyderabad, July 5 (Hydnow): A hearing was held in the High Court of Telangana today regarding the allotment of five acres of land to the Film Director N.Shankar.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s government has taken a decision by allotting five acres of land to Director N. Shankar in Mokilla in Shankarpally.

Another hearing was held in the High Court on a petition filed by a person named J.Shankar from Karimnagar objecting to allowing 5 acres of land worth crores of rupees and it has been allotted at Rs. 5 lakh per acre.

Shankar’s lawyer told the court that because of the studios here, Bollywood artists will also come. Many people will have employment opportunities. The Advocate General said that the cabinet will have the power to allocate at a subsidized price as per the recommendation of the Film Development Corporation.

He said that the Cabinet has taken the decision to give land to Shankar after examining all aspects. He told the court that Shankar has been working for the film industry for four decades. He is in the movement. He belongs to the BC caste. Shankar’s counsel said that the petitioner who had filed this petition had come to the court with baseless allegations.

After listening to the arguments, the High Court said that Bhupen Hajre and Satya Jeet Ray were respected by their own state governments. The High Court questioned whether they thought that being citizens of their state was a source of pride for them. The High Court reminded that the governments have given land to sportspersons, artists, and studios. Shankar’s lawyer argued that Shankar has a special skill in the field of cinema.

If the film industry is to establish itself in Hyderabad, experts are needed, that is why the government allotted land to Shankar, that too only after charging a fair rate. The bench said that when many sportspeople bring gold medals to the country, governments give them land and encourage them. However, the counsel for the petitioner argued that Shankar should be appointed as the Chairman of the Cine Development Corporation.

The counsel for the petitioner said that the allotment of land was not proper. The High Court clarified that they cannot give advice to the government. Arguments on the allotment of land to Director N.shankar have been completed, the High Court has reserved the verdict. the High Court said the judgment will be given on July 7. (Hydnow)
