Bengaluru/Hyderabad, Nov 14 (Hydnow): The Karnataka government has once again taken a crucial decision. Bans all types of headgear during the examination. In this regard, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has issued a key order. But in the wake of concerns from some organizations, mangalsutras (necklaces of black beads worn by married Hindu women) will be allowed on the stairs.

This announcement was made in the background of various boards and corporations conducting recruitment examinations on November 18 and 19 across the state.  KEA has announced a ban on all types of head covers as part of measures to prevent malpractice by candidates through Bluetooth devices.  KEA clarified that those wearing any cloth or cap covering the head, mouth, or ears will not be allowed in the examination hall.  Also, no electronic gadgets like phones or Bluetooth earphones are allowed inside the examination hall.  In addition, there will be a ban on metal ornaments.  However, married Hindu women can wear mangal sutras, black beads, and mats.

Though the dress code does not explicitly mention the hijab in the list of prohibited items, the latest directives are bound to be controversial.  If this is the case, it is noteworthy that KEA allowed hijabs during the recruitment exams held in October.  However, due to complaints about the use of Bluetooth devices, the state government has decided to implement the ban this time.

the state government had on November 11 ordered an inquiry by the state CID into the alleged incident of use of Bluetooth devices by candidates at the Kalaburagi and Yadgir examination centers in the examinations conducted by the KEA on October 23.

Earlier in 2022, banning the hijab in classrooms in the state sparked a furor, the Supreme Court upheld the Karnataka government’s decision.  It is known that this order has been extended to other board exams like class 10th and 12th as well as common entrance exams conducted by KEA.  (Hydnow)
