KPS Canal Breach: Uttam Visits Affected Areas, Demands ProbeKPS Canal Breach: Uttam Visits Affected Areas, Demands Probe

Hyderabad, July 1 (Hydnow): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded a high level probe into the breach of Jagdevpur canal of Konda Pochamma Sagar which caused devastation in Shivar Venkatapur and other villages of Markook Mandal in Sidddipet district. He also demanded appropriate compensation for those who suffered damages to their houses and crops due to flooding after breach.

Accompanied with MLC T. Jeevan Reddy and other senior leaders, Uttam Kumar Reddy visited the affected villages and interacted with the farmers and villagers. The local villagers complained that no official has visited their village to enumerate the losses. They also complained that they were facing a lot of difficulties due to the proximity of their village to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s farm house in Erravelli. The security personnel does not allow villagers even to step on the road that leads to CM’s farm house.

Speaking to media persons later, Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the State Government pay compensation to the people affected due to canal breach after assessing the losses on war footing basis. He also demanded that the Engineer-in-Chief and other officials concerned should be suspended immediately and stern action should be taken against them after an enquiry. He said entire losses should be recovered from the contractor as he executed sub-standard works.

Reddy said that the Kondapochamma Sagar Reservoir was part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on May 29. He said there were breaches on both right and left canals on June 12. He said that Tuesday’s breach has clearly exposed the inferior quality of irrigation projects being constructed by TRS Government. He said that KCR Government has been wasting thousands of crores in the name of irrigation projects by mortgaging the interest of people of Telangana. He said the works at these irrigation projects were of such inferior and sub-standard quality that they could not withstand the water stream for even a month.

The TPCC chief said if the quality of works executed in the Assembly constituency represented by the Chief Minister were of so low standard, people could imagine the status of projects executed in other parts of the State. He also expressed anger over the behaviour of Siddipet District Collector Venkatram Reddy and said local villagers have complained that he was not acting like an IAS officer, but behaving like a TRS activist.

Uttam said that people of Siddipet were unable to express and resolve their grievances as the Chief Minister remains confined to his farm house and the District Collector always remains inaccessible. He said as per the information given by local villagers, District Collector Venkatram Reddy was allegedly a partner in real estate business of some close relatives of CM KCR.
