Luis Rubiales has resigned as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and vice president of UEFA following an unwanted kiss with FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, Jennifer Hermoso.
This incident, which took place after Spain’s World Cup victory on August 20, drew significant backlash both within Spain and globally. Rubiales had initially described the kiss as “mutual”. However, Hermoso contradicted this, stating she did not give consent and felt disrespected by his actions.
Due to the ensuing controversy, FIFA provisionally suspended Rubiales for 90 days pending a disciplinary investigation.
