Hyderabad, April 8: Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination from Bhabanipur on Wednesday as a TMC candidate. Party leaders and family members accompanied her during the filing process.
Earlier, she held a roadshow from Kalighat to the Alipore Survey Building. Supporters joined in large numbers. She greeted people standing along both sides of the route as the procession moved forward.
After filing her papers, Mamata Banerjee said she was born and raised in Bhabanipur. She added that her life began there. She urged voters in the constituency and across the state to support TMC.
She also called on party workers to secure all 294 seats. Moreover, she expressed concern over the removal of names from the electoral rolls. She said the delay in releasing the final voter list troubled her. Therefore, she plans to approach the court again.
Mamata Banerjee has won the Bhabanipur seat three times. This time, she seeks a fourth term. Meanwhile, the BJP has fielded Suvendu Adhikari against her.
Polling for the 294 member West Bengal Assembly will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The results will be declared on May 4.
