B.Optom & Science Admission at GITAMHaritha Haram Program Celebrated At GITAM

Hyderabad, June 26 (Hydnow): Sambaiah Mydam, Research Scholar, Department of Chemistry has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from GITAM Deemed-to-be University. He will be awarded the degrees at the XI Convocation to be held in GITAM, Hyderabad Campus.

Sambaiah did his research thesis titled, “Novel Strategies towards the Synthesis of Fused Pyrimidine Heterocyclic Hybrids; Lansiumamide A/Alatamide-Phenylalanine Amino acid Hybrids and N-Formyl Imide from Amidine” under the supervision of Dr. Manoranjan Behera and Dr. K.Shiva Kumar, School of Science, GITAM Deemed-to-be University, Hyderabad.

Nowadays many people are suffering with cancer disease. It accounted for 8.2 million deaths across the world. The uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells anywhere in a body is called cancer. These abnormal cells are termed cancer cells, malignant cells, or tumor cells.

There are over 200 types of cancer including breast cancer, skin, lung, colon, prostate, and lymphoma etc. The drugs like 5-fluorouracil, indomethacin, Taxol, Doxorubicin, mitoxantrone etc. work as anticancer agents giving hope to the cancer patients for their survival. So many research groups are working on the synthesis of these compounds with the aim of developing the better molecule with higher activity. Taking this in to the consideration, we started our research to synthesize novel molecules related to anticancer with different strategies.

The main aim of this thesis is to develop hybrid molecules (chemical entities with two or more structural moieties with different biological functions, thus combining two or more pharmacophores in a single molecule) i.e. fused pyrimidine hybrids namely; Chromone- pyrimidine, Pyrazolo/Isoxazolopyrimidine hybrids as well as natural products hybrids viz Lansiumamide/Alatamide-phenylalanine amino acid hybrids with unreported approaches.

The objective of this thesis is developing the synthetic methods for functionalization or construction of fused heterocyclic hybrids/natural product hybrids were synthesized from 3-bezoyl chromone, benzamidines, N-vinylcinnamamide, N-vinyl benzamide and benzamides.
