Mumbai/Hyderabad, Jan 12 (Hydnow): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbor Link (Atal Setu), the longest sea bridge in the country, the bridge connects Saveri in Mumbai to Navseva in Raigarh district.

The length of this bridge is 21.8 km.  Meanwhile, 16.5 km lies on the Arabian Sea.  This bridge was constructed as six lanes at a cost of Rs, 21,200 crores.

Atal Setu, built in the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will reduce the journey time between Mumbai and navi Mumbai and will ease traffic, officials said, not only helping to improve transportation but also for economic growth.

Now it takes 2 hours to reach Nawa Sheva from Saveri, but it can be reached in 20 minutes from this bridge.  Two wheelers, autos and tractors are not allowed on this bridge.  Cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, and mini buses can travel.  It is estimated that more than 70 thousand vehicles can travel on the bridge daily.  A sound barrier has been installed on the bridge keeping in mind the flamingos that migrate here in winter.  The lights are designed and installed on the bridge that do not harm marine life.
