Kothagudem: A policeman died of a gunshot injury, in what is stated to be accidental discharge of the gun during a post protection weapon drill in a police station on Saturday early hours, reports said.
The policeman, Head Constable Batti Santosh Yadav, aged 30 years, died instantly of the gunshot wound to his head. The incident occurred at in Komararam police station in Kachanapally village of Gundala mandal.
Santhosh Yadav hailed from Gavicharla village in Sangem mandal of erstwhile Warangal district. He was in the Telangana State Special Police sixth battallion and was attached to Komararam under Yellandu police sub-division.
It was said that the service rifle of the head constable misfired when he was engaged in post protection drill during early hours in the day and died on the spot as he suffered a serious head injury.
His dead body was shifted to Yellandu Government Hospital and police launched a probe into the incident.
