For effective implementation of the proposed regulated farming in the State, the Agriculture Department is all set to collaborate with Telangana Remote Sensing Application Centre (TRAC) to remotely monitor cropping pattern across the State. The project will commence with compilation of crop data for the ensuing Vaanakalam season.
Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, who held a meeting with TRAC additional director generel Srinivas Reddy at the Ministers’ Quarters here on Sunday, discussed the feasibility of deploying the latest remote sensing technology to monitor cropping patterns. He directed the TRAC official to prepare a detailed report which will be submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for approval.
Through collection of crop data for Vaanakalam season, the TRAC will be able to demarcate the cropping pattern through remote sensing technology and identify them with different colours. The technology will enable the authorities concerned to identify the extent of area under cultivation in each survey number, and also estimate yield using crop cutting experiment data. Besides being able to estimate nature of soil, the TRAC can suggest types of fertilisers and their quantity to be used for any crop using soil health card data.

“Commencing from the ensuing monsoon crop season, we will collect and provide field level crop data to the TRAC which will record the cropping patterns for future purposes. These data will simplify regulated farming in future,” the Minister said. About 1.6 crore acres of cultivable land belonging to more than 56 lakh farmers’ families will be linked to TRAC soon, he added.
