Turn Crises Into Opportunities: TITATurn Crises Into Opportunities: TITA

Hyderabad, June 23 (Hydnow): The US has temporarily banned H1B Visas. However, this should not be seen as a loss of opportunity. India continues to be an outsourcing hub and because of the visa restrictions, jobs will be outsourced to Indian companies.

“There is no need to worry over the visa restrictions. Those having the right kind of skills will still be in demand,” said Sundeep Kumar Makthala, founder and global president of software professionals industry body Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA).

He said the effort of the techies should be to turn this situation into opportunities. He urged the IT and professionals from other segments and their respective families to be positive about the future prospects.

The Trump administration clamped restrictions will mainly impact H1B (skilled employees), H2B (blue-collar and agricultural seasonal helpers), L1, L2 (specialized skills and managerial posts), H4 (dependents visa) and J1 (scholars) visas. The decision taken by the US will have some impact on the respective segments but should not be a cause of worry, Makthala said.

With respect to the visas, Makthala said there is no problem for those already residing there. Those who have already secured the visa will not have a problem with entry to the US, he said adding that those who are contemplating applying for a visa will be impacted by the current restrictions.

The US issues about 85,000 H1B visas every year and about 74 percent of them are claimed by Indians and most of them are the technical side. The current decision will hit the chances of techies wanting to try for an onsite job.

Reacting to the decision, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had said the immigrants’ role in America’s progress is immense. Several corporate too have expressed their displeasure on the restrictions and said that outside talent helped in improving the company performance.

On the impact of the decision on the IT professionals, Makthala said that several jobs in the IT sector are skill-based. From the American companies point of view, if they were to recruit local talent with these skills, they would have to pay higher salaries. The companies have also flagged the shortage of trained and skilled man-power. In view of these, it will be difficult for them to implement the new visa rules and the restrictions could be a temporary phase, he said.

There might be instances of some professionals not accepting new work or a higher salary from other companies anticipating an onsite opportunity from the one they are working in. He appealed to them to not be disheartened by the current developments and instead, look for opportunities in India under the Make in India initiative or even Telangana’s thrust to bring IT to tier II cities, Makthala said.
