Varanasi/Hyderabad, July 21 (Hydnow): The Gyanvapi Mosque case adjacent to Kashi Vishwanath Temple has taken another turn. The Varanasi Court today gave permission for the scientific survey of the Gyanavapi Masjid complex. The Archeology Department of India has said that a scientific survey can be conducted in the complex without going into the way of the controversial “Shivalingam”.
Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, who is arguing the case on behalf of the Hindus, brought the matter to the attention of the Court in his petition to direct the ASI to survey the entire Gyanavapi masjid complex. The Court which heard the petition last May directed the Gyanavapi Masjid Committee to submit its argument to the Court. Today, after hearing the arguments of both parties, the court issued fresh orders.
During arguments, Jain told the court that the Temple-Gyanavapi Masjid dispute would be resolved only when the Archaeological Survey Department investigates the entire mosque complex. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court had also clarified to the ASI last May that carbon dating should not be done on the controversial Shivalinga inside the Gyanavapi Masjid-Kashi Vishwanath corridor. The Supreme Court stayed the Allahabad High Court’s order allowing a scientific investigation to confirm whether it was a Shivalinga or a fountain.

Speaking to Media, Advocate Jain said that the Varanasi Court’s latest order said that it will take 3 to 6 months to complete the ASI survey as ordered by the Court. (Hydnow)
